Point Mallard Kayak Launch

The new kayaking launch in Decatur is at Point Mallard Park on Flint Creek, near where Flint Creek meets the Tennessee River and Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge. It officially opened in September 2026.

  • Sports: Kayaking, Canoeing, Paddle Sports
  • Playing Surface/Area: Flint Creek; connects paddlers to the existing 20-mile Flint Creek paddling trail and provides access toward the Tennessee River
  • Amenities: Accessible kayak launch, floating dock, HIVE PaddleSports self-service rental station, single and tandem kayaks, paddles, life jackets with whistles and dry bags. Paddlers may also bring their own kayaks.
  • Accessibility: Accessible kayak launch and floating dock designed to provide easier water access for paddlers of varying abilities
  • Proximity: Located inside Point Mallard Park, minutes from Downtown Decatur and adjacent to Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge
  • Parking: Paved parking available at Point Mallard Park
  • Rentals: Self-service kayak rentals available through HIVE PaddleSports; rentals begin at $25 per hour
  • Water Access: Flint Creek, Tennessee River and Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge
  • Paddling Trails: Connects to the Flint Creek Exploratory Paddle Area and existing 20-mile Flint Creek paddling trail
